The academic report from Professor Gu Dongbing

Invited by the Research Institute of Pattern Recognition and Intelligent System, and the School of Automation, Professor Gu Dongbing, from the Department of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering of the University of Essex, UK, held the report on“Game Theory Approach to Target Tracking in Mobile Sensor Networks” to our students and staff on Oct.17th in Room 103, Graduate Building. After that, he visited the Research Institute of Pattern Recognition and Intelligent System, and the School of Automation, and made suggestions on Laboratory robot perception and control research.
Professor Gu Dongbing now works in the Department of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering of the University of Essex, UK as a PhD supervisor. He received his bachelor and master's degrees in the School of Automation, BIT in 1985 and 1988 respectively. After that, he received his PhD degree in the Department of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering of the University of Essex, UK in 2004. Professor Gu's research interests include machine learning, robot perception and control, image processing, etc. He has published over 100 papers on World-class journals such as IEEE Transaction series and different international conferences. Now he is the editor of an international journal: Int. J. of model, identification, and control. Plus, he is an organizing committee member of more than ten IEEE international conferences, a program committee member of more than fifty international conferences, and the session chair of more than twenty IEEE international conferences. In the international academic community, Professor Gu has extensive contacts and high visibility.
In his report, Professor Gu illustrated in detail how to use knowledge of game theory to solve the intelligent target tracking problem in wireless sensor networks, as well as the innovate research work and the achievements already made from their group in the perception and control of wireless sensor networks. What's more, he made a brief introduction on the overall situation of the University of Essex, UK and the present status of the graduate studies in UK. In the following process, students and staff discussed deeply with Professor Gu about several issues they were interested in.
